Mocs Sign Alabama Prep Star Jackson Lockhart

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.—The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s golf program signed Jackson Lockhart (Brownsboro, Ala.) to scholarship papers head coach Mark Guhne announced on Wednesday. He is the third student-athlete to sign with the Mocs in 2009-10 joining early signees Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) and McKeehanon Rue (Athens, Tenn.).

Lockhart comes to Chattanooga with a solid resume both at Huntsville High School and on the Southern Junior Golf Tour. He had seven top 10s, four top 5s, in 2009 on the SJGT including a win at the Terrapin Hills Junior Classic in October with rounds of 68 and 63. Since 2007, Lockhart has won four junior/prep events and has 18 top 10 finishes and a low round of 63.

“I’m really excited about adding someone of Jackson’s caliber in the late signing period,” said Guhne. “He has special ability and to be honest, I’m surprised he was available to us.”

The Mocs await the NCAA announcement of regional sites on May 10 at 6 p.m. Chattanooga will be going to one of six sites: Alpharetta, Ga., Bremerton, Wash., College Station, Texas, New Haven, Conn., San Diego, Calif., and South Bend, Ind.

New Tennessee Golf Magazine Debuts

Tennessee Golf Quarterly, a publication of the Tennessee Golf Association, makes its debut this month.

The on-line only publication is filled with articles about players, courses and issues in Tennessee golf. Chris Dortch, who has covered the Tennessee golf scene for 30 years, is a contributor to the publication.

TGQ will include regular features, including Dortch's look at great par-3 holes across the state. The first installment of the series takes a look at the 8th hole at The Honors Course.
