Mocs Invited to Play in Carpet Capitol Collegiate Classic

Further evidence of UTC's growing status in the college golf world came recently when the Mocs were extended an invitation to play in the 2007 Carpet Capitol Collegiate Classic, scheduled at The Farm in Rocky Face, Ga. Sept. 7-9.

"This was a personal goal of mine, to build this team into the kind of team that was good enough to be considered to play in the Carpet Capitol," UTC coach Mark Guhne said.

The Carpet Capitol tournament annually has one of the top fields in college golf, stocked as it usually is with the best teams from the talent-rich Southeastern and Atlantic Coast conferences. Other traditional powers that don't play in BCS conferences usually turn up, including East Tennessee State and Augusta State.

The Mocs' recent success—they played in their first-ever NCAA Regional last month—has made Guhne's job of scheduling considerably easier. In the 2007-08 season they'll play in other tournaments with strong fields, including those hosted by Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and VCU. The Mocs are also host to their own Scenic City Invitational, the field of which will include several SEC teams.
